In the article "The Governance of Geopolitical Risk in 2025" (http://bit.ly/473nM6U), something is raised that I've been observing in many conversations with colleagues: geopolitics is no longer an abstract or distant topic, but rather a concrete variable that directly impacts operations, supply chains, and corporate strategy.
What resonated with me most from the article are three key ideas:
1️⃣ First, geopolitical analysis is increasingly relevant for companies of all sizes. It's not just about multinationals; international tensions affect markets and sectors in sometimes unpredictable ways.
2️⃣ Second, solutions are necessarily bespoke, custom-made. There is no single manual for managing geopolitical risk because each company has different characteristics, operations, markets, and contexts. What works for a mining company in Australia doesn't apply to a tech company with a presence in Brazil. This customization makes the challenge greater, but also more strategic.
3️⃣ Third, and perhaps most interesting: we need to start seeing geopolitical risk as an opportunity as well. How can these changes optimize our operations? How do they affect our competitors? What opportunities are opening up?
Ultimately, I believe the message is clear: geopolitics is no longer just a topic for analysts. It's a key issue for boards of directors, one that intersects with corporate governance, risk management, and, increasingly, the competitive strategy of companies.
